Several global, regional and national trends are having a differential impact on the level of economic activity across the Emerging and Frontier Markets. The confluence of the changing trends are generating a great deal of dispersion in performance across the individual economies. Investors must be careful to avoid economies where the global, regional and local trends line up to adversely affect the local economy. All of this suggests that a broad-based regional investment strategy will not yield as high a return as one that avoids the adverse trends. A selective regional strategy that takes advantage of the identified trend is the way forward.
