Roughly one million migrants entered Europe in 2015, mainly from the Middle East and Africa. EU governments have struggled to manage the influx and adapt policies. The politics of special interest groups goes a long way to explain in part some of the responses to changes taking place in Europe such as Britain’s decision to exit from the European Union, German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s declining popularity and the disputes over the CGM which several European countries adversely affected by the migration refused to join which recently claimed its first victim, Belgium’s government.
