The commodity supercycle and populism were a bad combination for the emerging markets. It allowed for a government largesse that included income redistribution policies, waste, fraud, and abuse. All of which have been exposed by the end of the commodity supercycle. Now voters in the region realize that these policies are unsustainable and they have to forge a different path.
